WOAH 27th Meeting of the Sub-Commission for FMD in South-East Asia, China, and Mongolia

The SEACFMD campaign covers 10 countries in South-East Asia, China and Mongolia. It aims to increase the productivity and economic output of the livestock sector by controlling and eradicating FMD. The Sub-Commission is the highest decision-making body in SEACFMD Governance and provides the overall guidance including policy development and monitoring the progress of the SEACFMD Campaign. This event is significant event as this is the first physical Sub-Commission meeting after the 24th Sub-Commission meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2018. The 27th SEACFMD Sub-Commission took place in Bangkok from 3 to 6 September 2024. The meeting was attended by the SEACFMD Sub-Commission Members and National Coordinators, participants from WOAH (HQ, RRAP and SRRSEA) and partners including donors, WOAH Reference Laboratories and Collaborating Centres, Research Institutions, Universities and the private sector including Vaccine manufacturers and livestock industries.

This meeting provided opportunity to review the progress against the SEACFMD Roadmap key milestones and formulate recommendations to support activities geared towards meeting the objectives of the 2016-2020 SEACFMD Roadmap.

The meeting also provided an update on the latest global and regional FMD situation, including the situation in the neighbouring regions, namely South Asia and East Asia. The participants also updated on the various FMD activities carried out in the region and advances made in FMD prevention and control by the Partners including the Research Institutes.

 

Objectives:

 

The 27th Meeting of the WOAH SEACFMD Sub-Commission has the following objectives:

  1. To update participants on the current global and regional FMD situation as well as discuss the major challenges in this region.
  2. To exchange experiences and lessons learned from implementing the SEACFMD Roadmap.
  3. To identify practical solutions filling the current significant gaps identified in the past years in the regional FMD control.
  4. To discuss on the future directions of the SEACFMD campaign.
  5. To elect the new President and Vice-Presidents for the SEACFMD Sub Commission amongst the WOAH Delegates.
