Fourth African Swine Fever Coordination Meeting for South-East Asia

Background

 

In response to wide spread of African swine fever (ASF) in South-East Asia, the WOAH Sub-Regional Representation for South-East Asia (SRR-SEA) organised series of coordination meetings to provide platform to the Members to exchange information, share best practices and coordinate actions to control ASF effectively.

In line with the recommendations of 29th Meeting of the ASEAN Sectoral Working Group for Livestock (ASWGL), the GF-TADs Strategy 2021-2025, Regional GF-TADs Strategy for Asia and the Pacific and Global initiative to control ASF, WOAH supported development of ASEAN ASF Prevention and Control Strategy (AAPCS) with the purpose to coordinate actions to effectively prevent the spread and mitigate the impacts of African swine fever in South-East Asia.

The Fourth African swine fever (ASF) Coordination Meeting for South-East Asia organised by (WOAH) Sub-Regional Representation for South-East Asia (SRR-SEA) in collaboration with Department of Animal Health, Vietnam from 26 to 28 November 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam, aimed to further strengthen collaboration and coordination of ASF prevention and control in South-east Asia and to enhance implementation of ASEAN ASF Prevention and Control Strategy. The event was attended by 9 ASEAN Member States (AMS), Australia and China, Experts on ASF, representatives from WOAH and other Partners.

 

Objectives:

 

  • Update WOAH Members on the global and regional ASF situation, assess ASF risk situation and review the progress of ASF prevention and control in South-East Asia;
  • Update on the new tools and advances for enhancing ASF prevention and control;
  • Provide a platform for Members to discuss on current practices, strengths, lessons learnt and various challenges faced in ASF prevention and control and solution to address some of the challenges;
  • Discuss and brainstorm to contribute and develop implementation plan for the AAPCS;
  • Discuss and brainstorm to contribute and agree on the baseline and targets for the M&E indicators for the AAPCS results framework.
