Development of ASEAN LSD Prevention and Control Strategy (ALPCS)

Header

Considering the widespread prevalence of LSD in South-East Asia (with 8 affected countries) and the importance of regional coordination for the effective control of LSD, the Second LSD Coordination Meeting for South-East Asia in December 2021 and the 30th ASEAN Sectorial Working Group for Livestock (ASWGL) Meeting in June 2022 recommended WOAH Sub-Regional Representation for South-East Asia to support ASEAN and ASEAN Member States to develop ASEAN LSD Prevention and Control Strategy (ALPCS). The WOAH SRR-SEA in collaboration with ASEAN Secretariat, AMS and FAO is developing ALPCS in line with GF-TADs Strategy for 2021-2025 and Regional GF-TADs Strategy for Asia and the Pacific 2023–2027.

The 4th LSD Coordination Meeting for South-East Asia was held back-to-back with the meeting of the Core Group and Advisory Group for the development of ALPCS. The 4th LSD Coordination Meeting reviewed the LSD situation, assessed progress of LSD prevention and control in South-East Asia and to discuss the key challenges faced by the Members in LSD prevention and control. A series of brainstorming sessions were held to define problems, goal, objectives, outcomes and outputs of the draft strategy. Following the LSD coordination meeting, the Meeting of the Core Group and Advisory Group discussed and finalised the draft theory of change (TOC) and an outline for the ALPCS.

Objectives

  • Understand the LSD situation globally, regionally and at the country level (updated on the current LSD situation in the affected countries including sharing of experiences and lessons learnt by the affected countries);
  • Understand strengths and various challenges faced by countries in LSD prevention and control; along with recommendations to address some of the challenges;
  • Define problems, goal, objectives, outcomes and outputs of the ASEAN LSD strategy which will contribute to the development of a theory of change and an outline for the ALPCS.
