International horse movement project in Asia and the Pacific: 2nd coordination meeting

The project has made progress since the “kick-off” meeting on 18 January 2023 and we would like to inform you about our activities during this period. For this meeting, we invited representatives from the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) to present their mission and views on collaboration between the equestrian sector and the Veterinary Services. Improving collaboration between these two partners is one of our project objectives.

WOAH has worked on facilitation of international horse movement with the equestrian sector since 2012, developing several concepts that have found international recognition and acceptance. A few of these include Equine Disease Free Zones (EDFZ), the “high health, high performance” horse (TAHC Chapter 4.17), specific and important equine diseases, the need to develop novel vaccines, and the need for harmonised import health certificates. African horse sickness also became a WOAH “official status” disease in 2015.

To build on these successes and revive attention to the subject, WOAH launched this current project, presenting an emphasis on the Asia and Pacific region.

WOAH invited the Federation Equestre International (FEI)

to present their mission of ensuring good governance of equestrian sport, and views on collaboration between the equestrian sector and Veterinary Services.
