Equine influenza: a worldwide problem
The Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific office organised a webinar on equine influenza (EI), in the larger context of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) regional project on international horse movement in Asia and the Pacific. The objectives of the webinar included:
- To inform on important modifications in the Terrestrial Animal Health Code chapter on EI
- To give an example of the impact of an outbreak and how it can be prevented
- To highlight the genetic variability and how vaccines need to be adapted
- To emphasize the importance and role of WOAH Reference laboratories
- To explain the different vaccine schedules recommended by the FEI, racing and
WOAH
Speakers included experts from WOAH, the Veterinary Services of Australia, Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI), and WOAH Reference Laboratories in China, Ireland and Japan.
