Collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to enhance the effectiveness of Veterinary Services and ensure sustainable control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) enable resource sharing, improve service access, and strengthen disease control efforts. WOAH promotes PPPs through its guidelines and encourages greater engagement in FMD control initiatives.
The Private Sector Consultative Committee (PSCC) was established in 2007 to support the SEACFMD Campaign. A workshop held in Bangkok in 2019 reaffirmed the importance of PPPs in FMD prevention and recommended building a network of traders to support regional efforts. The SEACFMD roadmap (2021–2025) underscores the need for collaboration to improve Veterinary Services and enhance national and regional disease control strategies.
At the 27th SEACFMD Sub-Commission Meeting (3–6 September 2024, Bangkok), members agreed to strengthen private sector partnerships in line with WOAH’s PPP guidelines. By applying WOAH standards, increasing regional cooperation, and addressing key challenges, countries can improve FMD control, enhance vaccination efforts, and support safe agricultural trade.
To advance these goals, WOAH is organising a PSCC virtual meeting.
