World Wildlife Day 2022: Presentation on African swine fever in Asia & the Pacific

3 Mar 2022 (Japan) Every year, World Wildlife Day brings the opportunity to raise awareness around the world’s wild animals and plants, and how the World Organisation on Animal Health addresses challenges in wildlife health.

In Asia & the Pacific, Dr Brendan Cowled, Executive Consultant and Director of AusVet in Canberra, Australia, gave a presentation on the status of African swine fever in the region, summarizing the main issues and offering solutions.

The event, which featured many other presentations on related topics, a special statement from Dr Jane Goodall (renowned primatologist and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute), and a closing statement by OIE Director General Dr Monique Eloit, was open to all interested in wildlife health. Particularly welcomed were students and young professionals, and by the end of the day over 340 participants joined celebrations.

Two sessions were held – one convenient for viewers in the eastern hemisphere and the other for those in the western hemisphere. Translation was available in English and French (session 1), and English, French, and Spanish (session 2).
