The 12th Regional Steering Committee (RSC) Meeting for Asia and the Pacific was held in Tokyo in 2023 and finalized the GF-TADs Regional Strategy 2023 – 2027 which was created to optimize cooperation with multi-sectoral partners, providing an efficient and flexible framework to better respond to the regional challenges of TADs. This strategy identified priority Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) in the region and corresponding critical issues for their control and prevention, among which are the urgent need to strengthen laboratory capacity for early diagnosis, robust surveillance, and rapid outbreak response.
To help address these priority diseases, the WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (WOAH RRAP), has been conducting a series of capability building activities with financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (MARA) and technical collaboration with the China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center (CAHEC). Hands-on training will be provided on the following diseases: African Swine Fever (ASF), Avian Diseases, Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and Zoonotic Tuberculosis (zTB).
The WOAH Regional Capacity Training on Priority Animal Disease Control and Prevention in Asia and the Pacific in Qingdao, P.R. China from 14 – 18 September 2026 will consist of 1.5 days of international seminar followed by 3.5 days of hands-on laboratory training on priority diseases which will equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in laboratory diagnostics, epidemiological surveillance, and outbreak management, contributing to improved control and eradication efforts of TADs and zoonotic diseases in the region.
