WOAH at the 38th WVA Congress

WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific participates in the 38th World Veterinary Association Congress

29 April 2023 (Chinese Taipei) – Staff from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (RRAP) attended the 38th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC), responding to an invitation to present WOAH activities and work related to veterinary workforce development, veterinary education, and control of transboundary animal diseases (TADs), among other areas.

Also joining was Dr Mark Schipp, WOAH Delegate of Australia, who delivered opening remarks and a presentation, “The Environment on the One Health Plans and Strategies Developed by WOAH”, which discussed ideas developed at the 9th World Veterinary Association One Health Summit.

Dr Hirofumi Kugita, Representative of WOAH RRAP, gave presentations on the organisation’s support for international horse movement in the region, and activities in TADs Control and One Health. Dr Maho Urabe, Regional Veterinary Officer, WOAH RRAP, also gave presentations on WOAH’s work in Veterinary Education, and on the organisation’s flagship programme, the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway. Dr Urabe also participated in a panel discussion discussing Veterinary Education.

Attendees came from various partner organisations working in animal health, including the World Veterinary Association (WVA), members of the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA), and from countries and territories’ Veterinary Services and Veterinary Education Establishments. The event was a key networking opportunity which improved collaboration and coordination among stakeholders supporting capacity building and activities for Veterinary Services.
