The 8th SGE-ASF for Asia and the Pacific was held on 27-28 July 2023 in Qingdao, China, the very first in-person meeting of the SGE-ASF after the pandemic. The meeting focused on ‘biosecurity reinforcement’ aiming to discuss and explore potential national and regional reinforcement of biosecurity measures against ASF.
The meeting noted various efforts made to biosecurity improvements at the country level to control ASF and minimize its impacts and recommended to information sharing, maintain control measures for ASF, explore innovative approaches to manage ASF, and continue collaboration and cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
The meeting appreciated the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and the China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center (CAHEC, which is the WOAH Reference Laboratory for ASF and the FAO Reference Centre for Veterinary Epidemiology) for financial and technical support.
