Regional Workshop for OIE National Focal Points for Aquatic Animals

OIE Focal Points, nominated by OIE Delegates and acting under their supervision, are important mechanism for countries to satisfy their OIE obligations and to strengthen communication and collaboration between Member Countries/Territories and the OIE.

The fourth Regional Workshop for OIE National Focal Points for Aquatic Animal was held in Qingdao, China P. R. on 12-14 December 2017, with attendance of a total of 42 participants comprising 26 Focal Points/their representatives from 24 Member Countries/Territories, 1 speaker from OIE Aquatic Animals Health Standards Commission, 1 speaker from Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), 1 observer, 8 from the host country and OIE staff.

This workshop aimed to provide the Focal Points with:

  • Knowledge and working examples that will assist them to better implement OIE standards relevant to aquatic animal health;
  • Information on the roles and responsibilities of Focal Points for Animal Disease Notification to the OIE, in support of OIE Delegates;
  • Knowledge on how to use the OIE Aquatic Code and Manual to facilitate the prevention and control of aquatic animal diseases and safe international trade;
  • Knowledge on how to engage in the OIE standard setting process.

The workshop focused on providing Focal Points with knowledge on OIE standards setting, disease reporting, and the roles of Focal Point for Aquatic Animals as well as working group exercise on implementation of the OIE Standards to facilitate safe international trade.
