The Quadripartite One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA) and companion guide for implementation were developed to address the many health threats across the human-animal-environment interface. Following the Asia-Pacific Quadripartite One Health Workshop in September 2023, Mongolia declared interest in using the OH JPA to strengthen national One Health coordination.
The workshop provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements, gaps, and lessons learned through multi-sectoral collaboration on One Health at the country level beyond a sole focus on emerging infectious diseases including zoonoses, AMR and food safety. The workshop will assist Mongolia in better using the OH JPA and its Implementation Guide to support the development of OH JPA in the country’s context. There were 78 participants.
During the workshop, participants discussed themes under the OH JPA in multi-sectoral groups. Plenary discussions also enabled proposed activities to be prioritised and national participants to prepare a way forward to strengthen One Health in Mongolia. Participants agreed on a joint way forward and drafted recommendations for Mongolia, partners and the Quadripartite group of organisations (FAO, UNEP, WHO and WOAH) to further these priority actions.
On the occasion of the workshop, there was high-level support for the One Health approach in Mongolia, with State Secretaries from each sector (Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI), and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) joining the workshop. Additionally, the Quadripartite issued a Joint Statement to support the One Health approach for sectors working together in Mongolia.
