The epidemiological study design training course during 11 November – 10 December 2021 aims to strengthen the capacity of veterinary services in the South-East Asia region in designing and conducting various types of epidemiological surveys. The training course is organised by OIE Sub-Regional Representation for South-East Asia in partnership with the Epicentre, Massey University, New Zealand.
The participants are expected to learn about basic and advanced epidemiological study types, methodologies, and their real-world applications in the region, develop skills to identify both the strengths and limitations of the various epidemiological study designs considering the research question, the available time, and resources.
This training will provide an opportunity to national veterinary services, the OIE and partners to review the approaches and methodologies practiced in South-East Asian region and harmonize them in future studies and projects (not limited to Foot and Mouth Disease prevention and control but also other Transboundary Animal Diseases such as African swine fever and Lumpy skin disease).
The 5-week training is delivered using a combined self-paced training module of the Massey University’s online Moodle platform (Stream) and group training using zoom. Three study design topics (cross sectional surveys, Questionnaire design and case-control study and) are covered during the training including self-learning videos followed by online sessions and case scenario exercises.
