World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) is a reference organisation developing standards for safe trade in animals and animal products. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) mandates that WOAH officially recognises disease-free status of countries, to facilitate safe trade among Members.
Members with an official disease-free status or official control programme endorsed by WOAH are obligated to reconfirm their status annually in accordance with the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for annual reconfirmation and relevant articles in the WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
In line with the objectives of the 7th Strategic Plan for optimising data governance through digital transformation, WOAH has created the Disease Status Management Platform (DSMP). This platform serves as a secure centralised system to archive, track, search and submit all relevant dossiers related to the official recognition and maintenance of animal health status.
The annual reconfirmation component of the DSMP was launched and used for the first time during last year’s annual reconfirmation campaign of 2023. At the time, regional webinars were organised to increase awareness of the DSMP, contributing to a successful high submission rate through the new DSMP.
WOAH has invited participants to join this webinar aimed at highlighting the requirements and procedures for annual reconfirmation and maintenance of animal health status or official control programmes, and to share useful updates on the DSMP.
