ANIMUSE Webinar for Asia and the Pacific

Background

Recognizing the growing challenges of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) at all levels, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) adopted Resolution 26 in 2015, titled “Combatting AMR and Promoting the Prudent Use of Antimicrobial Agents in Animals” followed by Resolution 36 in 2016, “Combating AMR through a One Health Approach: Actions and OIE Strategy”. These resolutions aimed to establish and manage a global database for collecting annual data on the use of antimicrobial agents in animals. Since then, WOAH has focused on collecting and compiling data on antimicrobial use (AMU) in animals and supporting its Members in building technical capacity under the Strategy on Antimicrobial Resistance and Prudent Use of Antimicrobials, launched in November 2016. The collection and monitoring of AMU data is carried out by national authorities, who analyze the antimicrobial supply chain, including registration, procurement, production, distribution, and usage management.

A web-based AMU reporting tool, ANimal antiMIcrobial USE (ANIMUSE) Global Database, has been globally launched in 2022. This online tool is characterized by an interactive dashboard which allows the Members to explore and analyse their own data. In Thailand, WOAH organised the Regional ANIMUSE Training for WOAH Focal Points for Veterinary Products on February 22-23, 2023. This training provided practical knowledge and tips to start using ANIMUSE, as well as an opportunity for the Members to share their experiences in AMU data collection, visualization, and other AMU-related activities partnering with different stakeholders. Since then, WOAH updated features in the ANIMUSE dashboard and also launched e-learning materials to support users submitting the AMU data on ANIMUSE. Therefore, a regional ANIMUSE Webinar for Asia and the Pacific was organised to share updates in the features of ANIMUSE system and address any questions that users may have after the launch of the e-leaning platform, to improve the user experience and potentially increase the number of AMU data submission to ANIMUSE.

This webinar invited all WOAH Focal Points for Veterinary Products or his/her regional representatives who are primarily responsible for AMU data collection in their countries/territories and stakeholders from other related institutions and organisations working on AMU data management. It gave participants a place to share challenges in using the ANIMUSE database system and related issues. Speakers addressed questions raised by participants on use of the tool.

Objectives

  • Share updates on the features of ANIMUSE
  • Address questions or comments users may have after the launch of the e-learning platform
