Through collaborative efforts with member countries and partners in the South-East Asia, China and Mongolia Foot-and-Mouth Disease (SEACFMD) Campaign, WOAH remains dedicated to implementing the Global FMD Control Strategy.
In pursuit of this objective, there is a recognised imperative for the implementation of progressive zoning and compartmentalization. These measures are essential for ensuring safer trading, in accordance with the WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code and the SEACFMD Roadmap. To address these needs, the Upper Mekong Working Group (UMWG) on Foot and Mouth Disease Zoning and Animal Movement Management, was established in 2002. The UMWG plays a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of strategic measures for disease control and trade safety within the region.
To maintain UMWG activities that aim to facilitate the control of FMD and ensure safe trade among the Upper Mekong Region, WOAH SRR SEA, in collaboration with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry proposes to organize the 15th Meeting of the UMWG on Foot and Mouth Disease Zoning and Animal Movement Management from April 24 to 26 in Luang Namtha, Laos.
