The 34th Conference of the Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific, held in Jakarta, Indonesia (22–25 September 2025), included dedicated discussions on improving aquatic animal disease reporting. The Commission endorsed specific proposals aimed at enhancing the timely and accurate submission of data from the region.
Following the discussions, this online meeting was held to strengthen aquatic animal disease reporting in the region to propose a new reporting approach for WOAH-listed aquatic animal diseases using the WAHIS Early Warning Module (EWM).
In addition, access to WAHIS for Aquatic Animal Health Focal Points will be promoted, as this is expected to facilitate more timely and efficient reporting through WAHIS.
Going forward, it was confirmed that the effectiveness of the implementation of the new reporting approach will be reviewed on a regular basis.
A dedicated webpage to guide the new reporting approach will be made available shortly.
