In October 2024, WOAH RRAP organized a workshop to introduce the ANImal antimicrobial USE (ANIMUSE) Global Database for collecting, analyzing and disseminating data on AMU in animals. Despite growing concerns about AMU and AMR in aquaculture, reliable data from the region remains scarce, fragmented, and often unreported. In line with the WOAH 7th Strategic plan (2021-2025) and the WOAH Aquatic Animal Health Strategy, WOAH RRAP is committed to supporting Members in strengthening the monitoring of AMU and AMR in the aquaculture sector.
To address these gaps, WOAH has developed guidelines for monitoring AMU at the field level in the aquatic animal sector. The guidelines provide Members with an alternative approach to generate reliable AMU data that can inform national policies, improve animal health management, and contribute to AMR mitigation under the One Health framework.
WOAH is organising a regional workshop to support participating countries in implementing the guidelines. Participants will be guided in setting clear objectives on AMU monitoring.
Criteria include developing a monitoring plan, evaluating data collection methods, and performing AMU data analysis. The workshop will also include hands-on training in AMU data collection. As with past sessions, technical experts will provide support throughout the workshop.
