Background
This webinar dove into the connection between animal welfare, sustainable development, and the “One Health, One Welfare” approach in Asia-Pacific region. The aim was to highlight the importance of animal welfare as a key component of a thriving and sustainable in the region.
Key focus areas:
- Animal welfare as a vital asset: The session will explore the importance of animal welfare for the region’s sustainability. This includes the impact of animal health on food security, economic well-being, and even social stability.
- Interconnectedness of one health and one welfare: The concept of “One Health, One Welfare” emphasises the interconnectedness of animal well-being, human health, and the environment. The webinar will look into how promoting animal welfare can contribute to positive outcomes for all three.
- Focus on Asia-Pacific: Specific challenges and opportunities related to animal welfare in the Asia-Pacific region will be addressed. This may include discussions on regional food production systems, socioeconomic considerations, and best practices for promoting animal welfare.

This webinar was intended for WOAH delegates, WOAH national focal points, and a broad audience interested in animal welfare, sustainable development, and the One Health approach. This included government officials and policymakers, animal health professionals, NGOs, civil society organisations, food producers, researchers, academics and students.
