In March 2020, Thailand experienced the first outbreak of African horse sickness (AHS) in the Southeast Asian region. During April and May 2020, the WOAH supported the country and the region with a series of webinars to provide expert opinions and to assist Thailand in taking the best-suited decisions in their efforts to control the disease. Besides the webinars, WOAH also supported the development of Guidelines for Emergency vaccination and Guidelines for vector control, which are published on the WOAH website.
The main objective of this webinar was to present WOAH standards and the guidelines for vector control and to see how they were implemented in practical terms in Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. Experiences in vector surveillance to support proof of the absence of the virus were also presented by Thailand and Malaysia.
