22 Sep 2023 (Japan) – World Organisation for Animal Health Director General Dr Monique Eloit attended the 5th G7 Chief Veterinary Officers Forum held in Tokyo, Japan this 21-22 September 2023. Dr Eloit delivered a speech on the challenges of avian influenza, and provided follow-up statements regarding the Animal Health Forum held during the 90th General Session earlier this year (30 May).
In attending the event, WOAH hopes to stimulate discussion and share experiences among Chief Veterinary Officers (CVOs) on priority animal health issues, including avian influenza, African swine fever, and antimicrobial resistance. At the Forum were representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, USA, and the European Union, as well as from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Joining Dr Eloit at the Forum were WOAH staff Dr Hirofumi Kugita, Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, and Dr Ami Kitagawa, Regional Veterinary Officer at the Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific.
