Regional Tripartite Antimicrobial Resistance Project
“Working Together to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance”
Follow-up workshop on private sector engagement on antimicrobial resistance in Philippines
Background
A follow-up workshop was held on 27 March 2025 as part of the EU-supported Regional AMR Tripartite project. This event brought together representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), private sector stakeholders in the Philippine aquaculture industry, the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and the WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific.
Building on discussions from the initial workshop in November 2024, this session focused on implementing and sustaining two key public-private partnership activities identified earlier. These activities aim to strengthen awareness on AMR, enhance AMR surveillance, and improve digital monitoring and reporting systems to mitigate antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture.
By refining strategies and fostering collaboration, this workshop reinforced the importance of public-private engagement in combating AMR and advancing sustainable aquaculture practices in the Philippines.
Objectives
- To create a platform for public and private sector discussion to foster private sector engagement and promote partnerships.
- To elaborate further on the proposed joint activity and establish a collaborative partnership,
- To design a mechanism for implementation and specify stakeholders, their roles and responsibilities, coordination, resources, monitoring, benefits, and impacts for both sectors in the proposed partnership
Expected outcomes
- Clear implementation plans: Develop concrete action plans outlining specific steps, timelines, and stakeholder responsibilities for the selected public-private partnership activities.
- Strengthened commitment and collaboration: Increased engagement from both public and private sectors, fostering stronger partnerships and long-term cooperation in AMR mitigation efforts.
- Enhanced monitoring and compliance: Improved industry adherence to AMR regulations through better data-sharing mechanisms, more efficient surveillance systems, and strengthened monitoring frameworks.
