The establishment of the First South Asia Avian Disease Network was a key recommendation from the WOAH Regional Workshop on Avian Disease Prevention and Control in Asia and the Pacific 2024. The network aims to strengthen collaboration and information sharing among South Asian members to enhance preparedness, surveillance, and coordinated action against avian influenza and other avian diseases.
Given the continued spread and evolving epidemiology of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and other avian diseases in the region, timely sharing of outbreak data, surveillance findings, and control strategies is essential to protect poultry production systems, safeguard livelihoods, and mitigate public health risks.
