The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE) is the mandated intergovernmental organisation responsible for observing, collecting and analysing data on animal diseases worldwide. To support WOAH Members and non-WOAH members in maintaining global transparency and reporting animal and public health diseases, WOAH has developed an advanced reference platform for animal disease and veterinary capacities reporting, called the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS).
The WOAH disease notification (in-person) training, including the use of WAHIS, for WOAH National Focal Points for Animal Disease Notification in Asia and the Pacific region was held in Chiba, Japan (21st – 23rd June 2023) and the Regional Workshop for WOAH National Focal Points for Aquatic Animals in Asia and the Pacific region was held in Busan, Republic of Korea (26th – 27th June 2023).
Prior to the in-person trainings, a pre-training online session was conducted on Tuesday 13th June 2023 from 1500 to 1730 hrs (Japan Standard Time, JST).
The aim of the pre-training online session was to disseminate essential information on disease reporting whilst gathering WOAH National Focal Points for Animal Disease Notification and WOAH National Focal Points for Aquatic Animals together. This allowed participants to discuss issues related to disease reporting. Participants were supported with both theoretical and technical knowledge on the WAHIS system prior to participation in the in-person trainings. Participants were advised to take the opportunity to inquire about relevant requirements needed for the in-person training.
