Regional Continuing Hands-on Laboratory Training on Virus Isolation and Identification of PRRS and Other Swine Disease Diagnosis

The OIE Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (OIE RRAP) has been continuing efforts to control swine diseases in the region, under the support of the Government of People’s Republic of China and in collaboration with China Animal Disease Control Center (CADC), OIE Reference Laboratory (RL) for PRRS. In this context, OIE RRAP held Regional Continuing Advanced Hands-on Laboratory Training on Virus Isolation and Identification of PRRS and Other Swine Disease Diagnosis in Beijing, P. R. China on 28 November–2 December 2016, to which were invited as trainees, 11 experts from Cambodia, P. R. China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

This is a continuing training of the previous one, Regional Hands-on Laboratory Training on PRRS and Other Swine Disease Diagnosis held at the same laboratory on 13–17 April 2015. The Objectives of the training were to provide the trainees with opportunities:

  • to enhance their skills in swine viral disease laboratory diagnosis focusing on etiologic diagnosis;
  • to improve the knowledge about establishing new detective method, evaluating and choosing diagnostic reagent kits in clinical application as well as quality control of diagnostic result;
  • to promote further understanding of OIE standards on veterinary laboratory work, including specimen handling and bio-risk management; and
  • to allow experience sharing and to facilitate cooperation between participating countries.
