Organised jointly with the Institute of Veterinary Drug Control (IVDC), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of the People’s Republic of China
Classical Swine Fever (CSF) is one of the priority swine diseases under the Regional GF-TADs Strategy for Asia and the Pacific (2023-2027), which identifies African Swine Fever and other swine diseases (CSF, PRRS and PDF) as a regional priority.
The disease poses significant prevention and control challenges due to the ability of the virus to survive for long periods in pork and pork products, facilitating spread through animal and product movements. Effective control relies on robust biosecurity, surveillance, rapid diagnosis, movement control, stakeholder awareness, and, where appropriate, vaccination.
CSF remains endemic across many parts of Asia and the Pacific, while Australia and New Zealand have successfully achieved and maintained freedom from the disease. CSF is one of the diseases for which WOAH provides an official disease status recognition procedure. Official recognition of Members’ disease status is highly important for facilitating international trade and represents one of the key legal mechanisms linking WOAH and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The hands-on training will be held with the following objectives:
This training aims to empower participants with the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to advance CSF diagnosis, surveillance, and control efforts across the Asia-Pacific Region.
