2nd Quadripartite One Health Workshop for Asia

Background

One Health is an integrated, multisectoral approach that addresses health threats at the human-animal-environment interface. It aims to improve the health of people, animals, and ecosystems by recognising their interdependence. As global recognition of One Health grows, coordinated, cross-sectoral action and strong health systems are essential to reduce risks and protect the health of people, animals, and the planet.

Our collaborative approach

In this context, collaborative approaches such as One Health are essential, as they integrate knowledge across disciplines and sectors. One Health has gained global, regional, and national recognition, especially following the definition by the One Health High-Level Expert Panel as an integrated, unifying approach to sustainably optimise the health of people, animals, and ecosystems. Guided by the One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA), the Quadripartite—FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH—supports countries in advancing One Health, including in Asia.

Building on the collaborative work over the past few years, the 2nd Quadripartite One Health Workshop for Asia provides an opportunity to take stock of and highlight the progress made on One Health in the region, including the implementation of the OH JPA, and to highlight joint Quadripartite efforts in Asia. The ultimate aim of this meeting is to enhance the multisectoral coordination and collaboration at the human-animal-environment interface, promote knowledge exchange, networking and building partnerships between key stakeholders and partners involved in One Health initiatives in the region.

The workshop is being organised with financial support from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), the European Union (EU), and the Pandemic Fund (hosted by the World Bank).

Objectives

• Raise awareness of One Health issues across the human-animal-environment interface;
• Review the progress and showcase the key achievements made by Member States on One Health, including National One Health Strategies and Frameworks, national multisectoral/One Health plans, mainstreaming wildlife and environment sectors and other relevant initiatives;
• Promote knowledge exchange, networking and international partnerships on One Health initiatives among key stakeholders and partners in the region; and
• Prioritise and plan a way forward for scaling up One Health-related efforts in the region.
