Background

Pursuant to Administrative Order 42 series of 2014, the creation of Inter-agency Committee-AMR (IC-AMR), was co-chaired by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Agriculture (DA).  Moreover, the Philippine National Action Plan (PNAP) on AMR: One Health Approach was developed containing seven (7) key strategies (KS), and activities to combat AMR in the country. The KS 7 specifies the conduct of activities to extend awareness and understanding of AMR through effective communication and education. The objectives of the activities were also indicated in the PNAP on AMR.

The Philippines actively participated in the celebration of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. The IC-AMR and its joined departments and agencies developed and delivered information and educational materials such as infographics. The iAMResponsible campaign was developed under the PNAP for experts, non-experts, members of the academia, and the general public. As an important stakeholder, the private sector also plays a significant role in promoting the responsible use of antimicrobials and can be further engaged.

In this context, a two-day workshop brought together key stakeholders and experts, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. This activity has been implemented under the project funded by the European Union “Working together to fight Antimicrobial Resistance” implemented by Regional Tripartite AMR Project (FAO, WHO and WOAH).

Objectives

  •  To identify the stakeholders, data sources and data collection systems of supply chain of antimicrobial agents intended for use in animals and provide recommendations for improvements.

Specific objectives

  • To identify the gaps and linkages of these data sources in the data collection systems
  • To encourage the collaboration of relevant authorities in the data collection and data sharing
