East Asia Wildlife Health Network: Wildlife disease surveillance

The fourth meeting of the East Asia Wildlife Health Network was held on 16th June 2022, with 37 participants from across the sub-region.

There were three main agenda points in the meeting:

1. Introduction of new secretariat members: Dr Lu Qi from China P.R., Dr TSANG Yin Chau from Hong Kong SAR, and Dr Ankhanbaatar ULAANKHUU from Mongolia.

2. Invited speakers

  • Dr Becki Lawson (UK): Dr Lawson is a wildlife veterinarian and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Zoology, UK, where her work focuses on general disease surveillance in British wildlife species, conducted through the Garden Wildlife Health project. Dr Lawson is currently Vice Chair of the EWDA, and Secretary of the EWDA’s Network for Wildlife Health Surveillance. Her presentation was based on this publication.   • Dr Sol JEONG (Republic of Korea): Dr JEONG is from the National Institute of Wildlife Disease Prevention and Control. Dr JEONG is the current WOAH Focal Point for Wildlife in the Republic of Korea.

3. Information exchange among network members: Participants from China P.R., Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Republic of Korea, and Mongolia kindly shared the latest information of wildlife health issues.

It was decided that the topic for the 5th meeting will be “Africa swine fever”. The date will be 15th September 2022.
