Regional Workshop on Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and Other Priority TADs Control in Asia and the Pacific

Recognizing the growing concern regarding the spread of LSD in Asia and the Pacific Region, the WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (RRAP) is organising a workshop on lumpy skin disease (LSD) for the Asia and Pacific Region in Manila, Philippines, this July 2025. This workshop convenes relevant stakeholders from participating WOAH Members in the Asia and the Pacific region for an in-person workshop focused on building capacity and strengthening regional collaborations in the prevention and control of LSD and other TADs. The workshop also includes a specific session to discuss and update the ASEAN LSD Prevention and Control Strategy (ALPCS).

The event will also feature regional breakout sessions for South East Asia and South Asia, which will be valuable platforms for multilateral discussions and sustainable cooperation within the sub-regions, not only for LSD but for various other animal disease concerns.

Objectives

The overall objective of this workshop is to develop tangible outputs and roadmaps on strengthening the sub-regional mechanism to prevent, detect and respond to TADs in the sub-region.

In particular, the workshop aims to:

  • Share and exchange LSD and TADs-related information:
    • Global, regional, and individual country updates on LSD epidemiology, surveillance advancements, diagnostics, prevention, and control efforts
    • Successful cross-border collaboration mechanisms from other regions (SEACFMD), including the identification of limitations, constraints, and proposed solutions.
  • Strengthen Regional Collaboration: Reaffirm or establish new disease and laboratory contact points within each Member, and review existing collaborative structures like the SAARC EpiNet and Laboratory Directors’ Forums, including refining their Terms of Reference (TORs).
  • Develop Strategic Action Plans: Finalise the sub-regional work plan for 2024-2025 focused on tackling TADs, particularly LSD. Additionally, create strategic roadmaps to revitalise the SAARC disease tracking and laboratory networks, prioritizing LSD challenges.
