The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (RRAP), in collaboration with the WOAH Collaborating Centre for Reference Materials of Molecular Diagnostic Techniques in Aquatic and Terrestrial Animal Diseases (APQA), Republic of Korea has been engaged in the capacity building activities for the national/central laboratories of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) over the past several years.
In Asia, growing populations followed by increased demand for animal-source food is driving intensification of food-producing animals and the use of antimicrobial agents in various production systems. As a result, Asia is considered a hot spot for antimicrobial use (AMU) in animal health and production. Strengthening surveillance and monitoring of AMR and promoting more prudent AMU in compliance with international standards is the key to track and control the emergence of AMR in foodborne pathogens.
The objectives of these trainings include:
These training courses serve as a foundation for understanding AMR laboratory methodologies, offering participants essential theoretical knowledge alongside hands-on experience. In addition to technical skills, the courses may also include lectures on surveillance systems and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
We are organising a training along these lines, in Gimcheon, Republic of Korea this September 2025. For details, refer to the below draft programme.
Participation: By invitation only (maximum of six (6) trainees)
