Emergencies disrupt ecosystems, affecting health, food systems, communities, and economies. The animal health sector is at risk from transboundary diseases, pandemics, natural disasters, and climate change, as shown by disease outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), African swine fever (ASF), Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and COVID-19, among many others.
Throughout Asia and the Pacific, diseases such as ASF, HPAI, peste des petits ruminants (PPR), LSD, FMD, and Bluetongue are major concerns, devastating animal populations, disrupting value chains, and impacting local economies.
In this context, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) supports countries in managing crises, organising workshops and simulations to enhance emergency preparedness and response, as well as promote prevention and regional cooperation.
WOAH strengthens Veterinary Services in the region through capacity-building activities.
