Emergency Preparedness and Response

Header

Emergencies disrupt ecosystems, affecting health, food systems, communities, and economies. The animal health sector is at risk from transboundary diseases, pandemics, natural disasters, and climate change, as shown by outbreaks like avian influenza, African swine fever, Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and COVID-19.

In South-East Asia, diseases such as African swine fever, which has devastated pig populations, disrupted the pork value chain, and impacted local economies are major concerns.

In this context, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) supports countries in managing these crises, organising workshops and simulations to enhance emergency preparedness and response as well as promote prevention and regional cooperation.

WOAH strengthens capacities of Veterinary Services through a series of capacity building activities.
