The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) is proactive to ensure rabies doesn’t enter Fiji and strict animal import measures are in place. World Rabies Day is an opportune time to educate the general public about the disease. BAF celebrated World Rabies Day in 2019 on 27th September in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fiji National University. The event at FNPF Downtown Boulevard, Suva, attracted 120 participants. They were able to talk directly to staff from key government agencies about how they can help keep the disease out of Fiji.
Printed banners and brochures included OIE communication materials. Other materials were also developed to raise awareness about rabies.
Further information about the event, and BAF’s notification about importation of dogs and cats into Fiji to protect the country from rabies, appears on BAF’s official Facebook page and website. OIE communication materials for rabies are available here.
