World Rabies Day, 28 September 2023

World Rabies Day (WRD) is the biggest event annually on the global rabies calendar, aiming to raise awareness and advocate for rabies elimination globally. This year’s 17th World Rabies Day theme builds on the success of efforts to spread awareness of One Health – the idea that human, animal and plant health are interdependent and bound to the health of the ecosystems in which they exist.

This 2023, the theme for World Rabies Day as determined by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) is “All for 1, One Health for All”. Inspired by the story “The Three Musketeers”, by Alexandre Dumas, the theme invokes how partner organizations (WHO, FAO, WOAH and GARC) and all stakeholders can overcome challenges by working together to achieve the goals of rabies control and a global target of zero human deaths by dog-mediated rabies, or “Zero by 30”.

Every year, WOAH RRAP and SRR-SEA offices take the lead in providing support to regional Members to strengthen capacity and engagement in pursuit of the global target of “Zero by 30”. In 2023, this was no exception, with regional staff organizing the following activities.

(26 Sep 2023) WRD 2023 Tripartite Webinar, "Rabies: All for 1, One Health for All"

17th World Rabies Day Tripartite Regional Webinar

“Rabies: All for 1, One Health for All” in the Asia Pacific Region, 26 Sep 2023

For the 17th WRD, the Regional Tripartite (FAO, WHO and WOAH) observed the day by organising a joint webinar to re-dedicate ourselves to enhance our efforts towards eliminating this dreaded disease. In line with the theme of the 17th WRD (focussing on One Health), the event highlighted the significant role of people and sectors such as individuals (country champions), local civil societies, and the private sector, besides government, academia, NGOs, international organisations and donors. As One Health is for all, we highlighted the roles that all sections of society must play to address rabies effectively.
