Diseases included in this report are diseases notifiable to the World Organisation of Animal Health (WOAH) and non WOAH-listed diseases which are considered to be of importance in the region.
Aquaculture is still the fastest growing food-producing sector in the world. The Asia and Pacific region has dominated global aquaculture production, both in quantity and value. However, disease is still the major threat to production. To guarantee transparency of the regional aquatic animal health situation, WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (RRAP) and Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) jointly published the Regional Aquatic Animal Disease Report to provides information about the status of aquatic animal disease in the Asia-Pacific region.
Aquatic animal disease reporting is essential for early detection of emerging risks, monitoring endemic disease trends, and supporting coordinated regional responses and safe trade. Based on operational experience and Member feedback, including discussions at the 34th WOAH Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (Jakarta, September 2025), questionnaire survey and online coordination meeting, the new AAD approach introduces quarterly reporting for stable diseases (*), as this frequency allows meaningful tracking of disease trends while remaining feasible for routine surveillance. Under previous arrangements, Members often reported aquatic animal disease information separately to WOAH (through WAHIS) and to NACA/RRAP for regional reporting, resulting in parallel reporting pathways.
Reporting is now conducted through the Animal Disease Events Module (ADEM) and Six-monthly report for WOAH listed diseases and a simplified online form for non-listed diseases. This approach improves the timeliness of stable disease information while reducing duplication and aligning reporting with Member capacities.
(*) Many diseases that are endemic are also stable.

Non-WOAH Listed aquatic animal diseases are reported to support regional disease awareness and early identification of issues of importance to aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific region. While not included in the WOAH list, these diseases may have significant local or regional impacts, and routine regional reporting helps identify trends and emerging concerns that may require further attention.
Non-WOAH listed aquatic animal diseases should be reported quarterly regardless of disease status (absent, newly detected, or stable) through submission using an online reporting Google Form. This applies only to non-WOAH listed diseases (nine diseases in 2025). The online form has been introduced to make submission simpler and more user-friendly, based on Member feedback.
