To drive early detection and preparedness across the Asia–Pacific region, this quarterly report provides an update on the animal disease landscape. It achieves this by integrating official data from WAHIS with non-official intelligence gathered through regional active search activities.

Exceptional events (alert messages sent by WOAH Members): during Q1 2026, 37 exceptional animal disease events were reported. The majority were recurrences of a listed disease (27), with others related to first occurrences in a zone (3), first occurrences in a country (1), strain recurrences (5), or new strain in a country (1).
Top reported diseases: a total of 1,777 outbreaks for 12 diseases were reported. Foot and mouth disease (FMD) was the most frequent, with 1,120 outbreaks, followed by rabies (284) and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in non-poultry (134).
Reporting countries/territories: outbreaks were reported by 21 countries/territories. The most frequent reporters were: Indonesia (1,174 outbreaks) the Philippines (187), and Thailand (106).
Summary of epidemic intelligence (active search) findings
News item (information collected through the EIOS system) analysis: during Q1 2026, 12,093 news items were reviewed. Of these, 95 were identified as relevant to WOAH-listed or emerging diseases.
Top news topics: three diseases accounted for 85% of all relevant news items: HPAI (57%), ASF (22%), Rabies (6%)
News items by location: News items were detected in 13 countries/territories. The reporting was highly concentrated: a single country/territory accounted for 40% of all news, while the top four countries/territories made up 80% of the total.
Official reports from active search: following 10 communications sent to countries/territories, 5 official reports were received as a direct result of these active search efforts.

This section analyses the official information reported during Q1 2026, through the WAHIS system categorising reports by disease and affected country/territory.
During Q1 2026, a total of 37 exceptional events were reported to WOAH (events that started in the period Q1 2026). Twenty-seven of these were related to the recurrence of a listed disease, 3 to the first occurrence of a disease in a zone, 1 to the first occurrence of a disease in a country, 5 to the recurrence of a strain, and 1 to the detection of a new strain in a country.
Around one thousand and seven hundred outbreaks were reported (through immediate notification and follow – up reports) for 12 diseases.
